Pinball Circus Whitewood revealed at Expo 2014
The Pinball Circus group confirmed last night that 12 machines will be made. They told stories of the last few months of Python Anghelo’s life and his work on the machine and its importance to him. It was a touching tribute to a pinball designer who will be missed.
The Dude Abides
Check out The Big Lebowski! White Russian, Upper Playfield, Color DMD, Lower Playfield Bowling mech!
The Big Lebowski looks like the hit of Expo 2014. I watched the beginning of the Dutch Pinball presentation last night. The speaker started out by emphasizing that they are pinball players who love pinball and want to make great pinball. He said that he had talked to the head of a large pinball company who said that he was in the manufacturing business and worried about numbers and production. The speaker for Dutch Pinball said – if you feel that way you may as well f’in make a coffin because your soul is dead. That is a strong statement and it looks like The Big Lebowski pinball is a strong statement too.
The Hobbit Revealed – What do you think of Smaug?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kO_gwrdQAp4
This is one of the first videos of The Hobbit pinball which was revealed at yesterday’s pinball Expo. The reaction to the Smaug toy – which I think was promised to have an unprecedented level of interaction with the ball – seems pretty muted so far. In this video, it looks like the mountain spins around to reveal Smaug when multiball starts and his head tracks the ball and his jaw opens and closes.
RAZA Art revealed at Expo
John Popadiuk has been working the Magic Girl and Retro Atomic Zombie Adventure pinball for a few years now. Those who have pre-orders have signed non-disclosure agreements which prevent them from sharing what is shared on the Zidware owners only blogs.
Today at Expo, JPOP revealed impressive hand-drawn art and his original cabinets which are higher than normal in order to incorporate an LCD screen in the cabinet.

World’s Leading Maker of Arcade-Quality Pinball Games Announces New Partnership to Bring Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy MelonsTM Pinball
Machine to The Market
MELROSE PARK, IL – October 16, 2014 – Stern Pinball, Inc., the world’s oldest and largest producer of arcade-quality pinball games, announced today its new partnership with Whizbang Pinball LLC to build and distribute Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy MelonsTM pinball in the spring of 2015.
Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy MelonsTM pinball takes players on a journey through the Mellon Family farm renowned for abundant produce. Players shoot for and score points on the farm operated by the lovely Melony Mellon and her twin sisters while avoiding the wrath of their over-protective shotgun-wielding father. The colorful easy-to-learn game features a fun classically-styled pinball playfield tuned for a balance of randomness and skilled shooting challenges that rewards players of all skill levels.
“We wanted to create a game that everyone can enjoy, so we started with a more accessible layout from a classic era of pinball,” said Dennis Nordman, co-founder of Whizbang Pinball and famed pinball industry design veteran. “This is the first new electro-mechanical style game in over 35 years.”
Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy MelonsTM pinball delivers the most tactile pinball experience since the advent of electronic pinball with real bells, mechanical score reels, a solid state control system, and a digital soundtrack. This unique blend of classic and modern technologies creates a new breed of pinball machine that presents pinball as an art form while maintaining the reliability and serviceability of modern commercial pinball machines. The playfield, backglass, and cabinet art and styling, central to the game’s unique visual quality, feature detailed original characters and fresh hand-drawn artwork that blend elements of mid-century pin-up art and classic pinball themes.
“Stylistically, this is a mash-up of fruit crate labels, classic pinball and retro pin-up art,” said Greg Freres, co-founder of Whizbang Pinball. “We’re very excited to be working with the professional team at Stern Pinball on this project.”
Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy MelonsTM offers many unique features including:
● Original throwback-style playfield designed by Dennis Nordman
● Original hand-drawn graphics by Greg Freres featuring fresh fruit, a cool truck
and the robust Mellon family
● A unique, durable, weathered fruit crate cabinet design

● Retro-style bumper caps and flipper bats
● Dual-action bullseye melon targets
● Two old-time pinball bells and a real cow bell

Taylor’s DW Restore
Last night was the first league night playing on Taylor’s newly restored Dr. Who. Taylor’s attention to detail is evident in all of his machines and Dr. Who is no exception.
Taylor posted a pinside thread during the restoration process which you can find here.
League Night Number 2

League night no. 2 is in the books. Some good scoring and good competitive games.
We had a couple of technical issues last night. On WOZ, the slingshot was registering which prevented people from scoring the skill shot. The problem was discovered after a few people had played their first ball. We decided to fix the issue and re-start the games for that group.
There was a second issue with Monopoly that was not discovered until everyone in the group had finished playing their games. The upper saucer was not registering or possibly registering intermittently. Since that problem was discovered after the games were complete, we decided to give the players in that group the choice of keeping their current score or replaying the game.
We try to make the rulings fair to everyone and I think we got it right this time.
Any suggestions on how to handle these issues in the future are welcome.
York Show 2014 in the Books – Time Machine and Close Encounters in the Boocade
I went to the York, PA pinball show this past weekend and came home with these two very cool machines – Zacarria Time Machine and Gottlieb Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
More to come on the York Show, I had a nice long post prepared, but I managed to delete it.
